Dr Geoffrey Walcott, MB.BS, DM Psychiatry, attended the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, where he received his MBBS degree in medicine and his DM in psychiatry. Since graduating UWI in 2010 after successful submission of his research thesis he has worked as the Consultant Psychiatrist in charge of Community Mental Health Services for the parish of Kingston and St Andrew, Jamaica till 2016. He was an Associate lecturer in the department of Community Health and Psychiatry from 2011 to 2016 as well as the Master’s in Public Health Program UWI and the Masters’ in Counselling Psychology program at the College of Graduate Studies and Theology from 2013 to 2015. He is the Consultant Psychiatrist and Clinical Director for Psychotherapy Associates Ltd.
He has received awards for Outstanding Contributions in the field of Substance Abuse Education by the National Council on Drug Abuse (Jamaica) in 2007 and the UWI Faculty of Medical Sciences Award for Best Psychiatry Research Poster also in 2007. He is the recipient of the Principal’s Award for Most Outstanding Research Activity in 2015.
Dr Walcott conducted his research thesis on “The Prevalence of Personality Disorder in a General Hospital in Jamaica” and has multiple publications. He has also made several presentations both internationally, and locally.
Dr Walcott is a member of the Regional Latin American Steering Committee on Paliperidone Palmitate 3 Monthly injectable (Janssen Cilag), as well as the Ministry of Health Jamaica Task Force on the Homeless and Mentally Ill committee. He has previously served on the President of the Jamaica Psychiatric Association committee, and the Behavioral Modification Committee- Ministry of Education Jamaica.
